KINDRED OF ARKADIA 5: FATED HEALING

Felix Kilpatrick survived years of hell in a mad Alpha’s cage and has finally made it to the safety of Arkadia. To make things even better, his best friend Sebastian has also found his way to Arkadia and offered to let him live with the Arkadian lion’s pride. He is living it up when he meets his mate. One overly neat, OCD, fastidious doctor.
Dr. Maddox Claybourne is content with his life in Arkadia. He tends to the occasional broken bone or contusion that is commonplace in a shifter only town. He is not prepared for a redheaded mate that wrecks his clinic, ignores his orders, and tries to serve him microwavable pizza!
It will take every ounce of skill between Felix and Claybourne to combat a mysterious illness that threatens to steal away the lives of those most precious in Arkadia. No one is safe when people begin to fall ill. Can Felix and Claybourne discover a cure in time? And when they can’t, can they live with the deaths this virus will leave in its wake?

Story Excerpt
Felix was about to say something to his rude mate when Rebecca popped into the tent.
“Hey, Doc, do you have any human blood?” she asked. Claybourne nodded.
“I’ve been keeping a stock of it since it’s neutral to shifters and vampires,” he said putting the bandage rolls into a neat row.
“Can I have a bag of it?” she asked. He nodded again and pointed to the small portable medical mini fridge. She went over, grabbed a bag, and left. Felix watched the entire thing in gross fascination.
“You didn’t even ask why she needed it,” he said, watching as his mate started organizing the bandages into three rows of four instead of four rows of three.
“It’s Rebecca, sometimes it’s better not to ask,” he said, sounding distracted. Felix walked over and bent his head slightly to stare at his mate’s ass. Feeling slightly mischievous he reached out and grabbed a solid handful of his mate’s round, muscular cheek. Claybourne gave an undignified yelp and turned to face Felix. He was about to say something when Rebecca raced back in.
“Hey, Doc, can a human ingest small, diluted amounts of human blood?” she asked, She gawked at Claybourne’s flushed face before looking over to Felix.
“Yes.” Claybourne’s voice broke and he cleared his throat. “Yes, in small amounts human blood is safe to ingest,” His voice returning to its normal lower octave.
“Yes!” she said as she raced back out. Claybourne watched her leave, and a thoughtful look came over his face.
“Okay I have to admit, I’m intrigued,” he said, facing Felix wearing the first real smile Felix had seen since walking into the tent. Felix could feel his inner animal morph into a tiger. He was reacting to being close to Claybourne.
“Tell me you feel it too,” Felix said quietly. A shocked look appeared on Claybourne’s face.
“Of course I do. All I can think about is getting you on the closest flat surface, but seeing as how you and I are the only medically trained people in town, we cannot disappear on Field Day of all days,” Claybourne said as his breathing became shallower. His eyes shifted from his normal crystalline blue to a light sky blue.
“I thought you were a tiger,” Felix asked, feeling his body respond to his mate’s growing need.
“I am. I’m a white Bengal tiger. My eyes are blue, not the normal orange of a regular Bengal,” Claybourne explained.
“I’m a hybrid,” Felix said He looked down, unsure how his mate would react.
“I think that hybrids are the very best that shifters can be,” Claybourne said. Felix felt tears prick his eyes. Being a hybrid had opened him up to scorn before, and he was relieved that his mate accepted him as he was.
“And of course your genetics and physiology are fascinating,” Claybourne said, turning back to his table. Felix was looking around for something to hit his mate with when David and Daniel came running into the tent, Roman hot on their heels. The twins ducked behind Claybourne, trying to use him as a shield.
“You do know I won’t help you, right?” he said dispassionately.
“Yeah, but if Roman does to us what he is threatening to do, we want you close by,” Daniel quipped. Seconds later an annoyed Gabriel glided into the tent. He stood next to Roman who was glaring at the twins.
“Ah, it’s the sarcastic doctor. You didn’t by chance give Daniel and David blood did you?” Gabriel asked walking up to stand next to Roman who was glaring at the twins.
“Of course not. I gave the blood to Rebecca,” Claybourne said reasonably. Gabriel pinched the bridge of his nose.
“It’s actually not bad,” Rebecca said, licking an ice cream cone as she walked into the tent.
“Wait, is there blood in the ice cream?” Felix asked as he watched Rebecca lick the cold treat. She nodded.
“Yup. I saw that some ice cream parlor out on the west coast has been using animal blood in ice cream. I thought that since this is a shifter town that might not be a good idea, so we used human blood for the vampires. It’s actually pretty good,” she said, looking at her ice cream cone, then she looked at Gabriel. Standing on tiptoe she pushed it onto his lips. He simply stared down at her with an eyebrow raised, the smear of ice cream on his face taking away from his normally regal appearance. Reluctantly he licked his lips and a surprised expression came over his face.
“You two made this?” he asked. The twins nodded.
“I’ll have to call Ms.Brayburn back and apologize for the shock she had when she saw the twins pouring blood from a medical bag into the ice cream machine. She was complaining about wanting her chocolate ice cream to Ashby who then in turn called me since he knew I was here on the vampire panel we created to answer questions from the townspeople. I’ll also have to buy Ashby new equipment for the shop,” Gabriel said, glaring at the twins before reaching for Rebecca’s ice cream cone and taking a bite.
“That way we can keep the equipment you used today at the coven house to make more. This is truly decadent.” Gabriel held the ice cream cone in one hand and with the other offered the crook of his elbow to Rebecca who took it daintily. Rebecca winked at the twins before they both walked out. David and Daniel exhaled loudly.

Adult Excerpt
“I’m going to get you to relax. Leave the mess. The world won’t end, I promise you.” Felix took their plates and put them on the coffee table. Claybourne stared at them. His right eye began to twitch slightly. He turned to Felix.
“The kitchen is dirty.” He rubbed his hands on his pants leg. Felix boldly reached over to cup his mate’s crotch.
“Dirty is good. Want to make me dirty?” Felix asked dropping his voice down to a whisper. He almost did a cartwheel when he saw his mate’s eyes fade to a light blue. His tiger’s eyes were coming out. Claybourne pushed Felix back and crawled over him. Felix had barely a moment to take a breath before Claybourne’s mouth was on his and taking away his sanity. Their tongues dueled and twined around each other. Felix had to pull back, and he reached down and adjusted his jeans which had become painfully tight.
“Let’s go to the bedroom, I don’t want you damaged,” Claybourne said, grinning. Felix nodded and they both scrambled off the couch. Felix raced after Claybourne, grabbing his ass the entire way down the hall. When the cleared the door they both began stripping their clothes. Felix knew that Claybourne must be out of his mind with lust since he was tossing his clothes around the room. Claybourne, naked, turned to him, his prick jutting out from his body already leaking copious amounts of pre-cum down the hard length. Over the years trapped in his captor’s cage Felix had plenty of time to fantasize about his future mate. He had imagined everything from large bulky bears to lean lions, but nothing prepared him for the perfection of his tiger. The man stood nearly a foot over his own five foot five height and every inch of his body was covered in lean, tone muscles. His chest was dusted with dark hair that trailed downward and divided his six pack beautifully. Felix’s mouth began to water. The man had the body of a god. Claybourne walked around the bed to the nightstand, and pulled out a small bottle of lube. Claybourne threw the bottle to him. He caught it easily and waited until his mate was standing in front of him again.
“Can I taste you?” he asked. Claybourne whimpered and nodded.
“You never, ever have to ask that question. Forever and ever amen the answer is yes.” Claybourne grabbed the base of his shaft. Felix gave a sultry smile and began to sway his hips as he stalked forward before dropping to his knees before his mate.
“Good, because I love to suck cock,” Felix admitted before swallowing his mate’s impressive length down. Above his head Felix heard an unintelligible chant of promises and curses. While holding the base of his mate’s cock in one hand he flicked open the bottle of lube with the other and began to work his fingers into his own hole, stretching himself. He groaned at the sensation of having his mate’s cock in his mouth as he played with his own ass. Felix reveled in the taste of his mate. He ran his tongue up and down the soft skin of the long shaft. He loved every line, tracing the thick heavy vein. He swirled his tongue around the spongy head before dipping his tongue into the slit. He hummed his satisfaction. His mate tasted like nectar.
“Please stop, much more and I’ll come,” Claybourne begged, trying to catch his breath.
Felix stood. “It’s a good thing I’m all stretched and ready for you. I don’t think I can wait another second to have this gorgeous cock in my ass.” Felix climbed onto the bed, and made sure he wiggled his ass every chance he got. Claybourne let out a loud rumble and pounced on him.
“Turn over, my mate, I need to see you when I take you,” Claybourne said, his voice deep. Felix shivered when he saw that his mate’s canines were out. Felix rolled over onto his back and pulled his knees to his chest before spreading his legs wide. Claybourne stared down at him.
“You are the most beautiful thing I have ever seen,” he whispered.

BEHIND THE SCENES
Q   Do you write full-time or part-time?
I write part time. I have a full time job where I normally put in between 50-60 hours per week at.
Q   Do you have a special time to write or how is your day structured?
I like to write in the early morning when I get off of work. I works overnights on the East coast, so my hours are completely backwards to everyone else.
Q   Do you write every day?
No, some days it’s book planning or outlining. I also try to balance that with time on Facebook chatting with my peeps and web building. Social networking is a huge part of being a writer.
Q   Do you aim for a set amount of words/pages per day?
No, I don’t like to feel like I HAVE to write. If I try to force it, I’m usually unhappy with what I’ve written.
Q   Do you work to an outline or plot or do you prefer just see where an idea takes you?
I do both. I have a rough outline, but when I sit down and start typing sometimes my characters are in the driver’s seat.
Q   How do you think you’ve evolved creatively?
I’m using a wider range of words to describe things. To help with steamy scenes I started an Explicit Word spreadsheet LOL
Q   What was the hardest thing about writing your latest book?
Fated Forgiveness which is being released Nov 7th, was pretty straightforward. But the one after that was hard due to medical terminology. It’s also my tear jerker and emotional roller coaster book. I am warning my readers in advance. Have tissues ready.
Q   What is the easiest thing about writing?
Talking to my characters
Q   How long on average does it take you to write a book?
On average I would say 2-3 weeks
Q   Any tips on how to get through the dreaded writer’s block?
Either I start outlining something new which may trigger needed plot points in the book prior or I skip to the end of the book and write it backwards J

STORY EXCERPT

Rebecca frowned and swung her head back to Ashby.
“Did he hurt you, Ashers?” She said, making sure she made eye contact. He looked away and shrugged. She grabbed the hem of his shirt and manhandled it up over his head. It got stuck around his ears, but she had somehow managed to get his bruised arm free.
“Kate! Look at this. That asshole Marcus Evans has hurt Ashby, we need to arrest him!” She said, waving Ashby’s arm around. Ashby got his arm free and managed to pull his shirt down from where it had been lodged around his head and put his arms through the sleeves.
“It’s ok, Moe ran him off. Even Marcus isn’t stupid enough to mess around with Moe.” Ashby said grinning.
“No kidding, Moe would eat him for breakfast before coming to you for his banana split,” Nic said, laughing. Kate snorted.
“Mojo,” She chortled.
“Kate, it can’t still be funny,” Bran said from across the diner, where he and Caleb waited for their order holding the trio’s twin sons, Landon and Lucas.
“Mojo, Jojo,” Kate giggled. Rebecca, whose anger was fading, smiled.
“Ok, it is kinda funny,” Rebecca said.
“As long as it doesn’t hurt his feelings, it could hurt him to hear something like that all the time,” Ashby said quietly. Rebecca nodded. Kate grinned.
“Ashby you’re so sweet,” Rebecca said hugging Ashby’s arm. He blushed.
“He’s ok with it because I told him that he was totally hot and that’s why it was so funny, because it was completely opposite to how he looked. The man is downright fuckable,” Kate said and two ominous growls were heard from the counter. She blew kisses to her mates. Rebecca nodded.
“I’d totally do him,” She said without thought, and a long low rumble echoed from the door. Rebecca turned in her chair and her eyes brightened.
“Hi, baby, how was work?” she asked, turning her face up for a kiss.
“Do who?” Aleks demanded and he stalked over to where his tiny mate sat and kissed her lovingly.
“Moe Jones. Kate and I agreed the man is fuckable,” Rebecca said.
“Girls, language!” Ma yelled from the kitchen.
“Yes Ma!” both women called out and then grinned at each other.
Aleks looked down at his mate frowning.
“You don’t need to think about doing anyone but me,” Aleks said bending down to stare his mate in the eyes. She looked up impishly.
“Aleks, Marcus Evans went into Ashby’s shop and hurt him today. He has bruises on his arms. I’m getting a bad feeling about him.” Rebecca said as Aleks easily lifted her up, sat down in her chair, and settled her in his lap.
“Ashby, do you want to press charges?” Aleks asked, concern on his face. Ashby shook his head.
“No. He has never done anything more than harass me. I have a feeling if I press charges it would only escalate the issue. As long as he keeps his hands to himself then I don’t want to press charges,” Ashby said.
“If he hurts you again, I’ll shoot him!” Rebecca said and Aleks looked down at her panicked.
“Becca, baby, did you bring your gun?” he asked gently as if approaching a wild animal. All of the shifters at the table picked up on his edginess and subconsciously scooted back a bit.
“Of course! It’s not going to do me much good in a box under the bed is it? The next time hyenas come to town it’s open season,” she said, patting her purse.
“Is the safety on this time?” Aleks asked, inventing new shades of pale. The purse had shifted down between their bodies and was resting in his lap.
“Of course it is,” Rebecca said, picking up the purse and patting it. She dropped it to the floor and a loud bang echoed throughout the diner.
“What in the hell!” Connor demanded coming out of the kitchen. Rebecca stared down at her purse and then looked up at Aleks.
“Ok, I swear the safety was on.” She tilted her head the way she normally did when she was thinking.
“Maybe...” She looked around the table and Nic and Kate were trying not to laugh. Ashby was trying to get his heart to stop beating out of his chest. Aleks began to shake.
“Aleks, are you ok?” Rebecca asked. At the sound of her calm and rational voice Aleks snapped.
“That’s it! That. Is. It! No more gun for you. That is the second time you have almost killed someone, the first time was when you tried to show me your cowboy stance. I can’t do this! I can’t think knowing you have a weapon!” Aleks roared and bellowed. Rebecca sat on his lap calmly petting his chest as he ranted.
“Don’t worry, I’m getting better, see this time I wasn’t holding the gun when it went off, so technically I didn’t shoot it,” she said as if that made all the difference in the world.
Ashby watched the interaction between the mated pair. He could see Aleks’s hands shaking, he didn’t know if it was from fear or from the effort it took not to shake some sense into his tiny mate.
“Connor!” Aleks yelled.
“I’m here,” Connor said, walking over to the table and picking up the purse. He opened it up and pulled out the gun, he slid open the chamber, checked the barrel, put the safety on and tucked it into the back of his pants.
“Hey that’s my gun!” Rebecca protested.
“We’re going home!” Aleks said standing and swung his mate up in his arms.
“When we get home we’re going over gun safety, again. And this time the lesson will stick. You hear me?” Aleks demanded. Rebecca got a dreamy look on her face.
“Yes, Sir,” she said as Aleks carried her out of the diner.
“Oh my God did you see the look on his face?” Connor said doubling over laughing. That set off the entire diner. Kate wiped her eyes laughing.

ADULT EXCERPT

“Mon Dieu you are a vision. Tonight I will make you mine forever.” Gabriel stood and he gently picked Ashby up and laid him down on the bed. He took a moment to look down at the picture of perfection before him. His Ashby looked like a fallen angel. His innocent eyes contradicted his love swollen lips and flushed cheeks.
“What do you mean forever?” Ashby asked. Gabriel looked over to Ashby and smiled gently. He then removed his suit jacket and placed it on the bench at the end of the bed. Slowly he removed his designer silk shirt and tossed it next to the jacket. He saw Ashby lick his lips.
“What is your ultimate fantasy my angel? You have given me so much pleasure already tonight so selflessly, what can I do for you?” Gabriel asked his voice deepening. He saw a shiver run through Ashby and he felt ten feet tall.
“Can you make love to me? No one has ever just loved me.” Ashby said so quietly that even with his vampiric hearing he had to strain to catch the words. When he heard Ashby’s soft request his heart broke in two. The gorgeous creature before him should have only known gentle caresses and tender words. From the little his dainty mate had told him about his ex-boyfriend he knew that Ashby had experienced hell at the hands of a man who should have protected him at all costs. He tried to keep the anger he felt from showing on his face.
“We don’t have to if you don’t want,” Ashby said quickly and rolled over to his hands and knees putting his head down.
Gabriel felt like someone punched him in the stomach. He quickly removed his slacks, throwing them across the bench and went to the night stand and pulled out a packet of lube. He eased himself behind Ashby running his hands over the crease gently massaging the dark hole winking at him.
“My angel as much as I want love to bury my face in your sweet ass and bring you to the brink of pleasure over and over again with my mouth, I need to see your face and kiss those exquisite lips of yours as we make love.” Gabriel placed both hands on Ashby’s hips and pulled him backward until he was sitting back on his knees his back flush against his chest. Ashby’s face turned up and he looked at him with surprise in his eyes.
Gabriel ran a hand down Ashby’s chest and tweaked the tiny pale pink disk. Ashby moaned and rested the back of his head on Gabriel’s breast bone.
“Does my bebe like that?” Gabriel whispered the words against Ashby’s neck, causing goose bumps to run down his mate’s body.
“Y-y-yes,” Ashby squeaked.
“Good, you will know nothing but pleasure by my hands.” Gabriel ran his tongue up Ashby’s neck and bit gently on his ear. Ashby groaned and pushed his ass back against Gabriel’s hard dick.

Excerpt

“Aleks, hey, buddy,” Liam said lazily.
“Hey, asshole,” Aleks replied sounding distracted.
“I just wanted to call and let you know that you’ll be picking up Rebecca at my house for your date.” Liam waited. Three, two, one and… He held the phone away from his ear at the roar.
“What the hell is she doing at your house, cat!” Aleks roared. Liam smiled. He was making this too easy.
“Well at the moment her luscious little self is in my shower and wait, yes, I smell coconuts. She’s bathing.” He held the phone away from his ear again at the roar, unaware that everyone had stopped what they were doing to listen.
“If you so much as lay one finger on her, cat, I will rip you apart.” Aleks growled.
“What was that, Rebecca, you need help getting into your dress? Don’t worry, kitten, I’m coming. Sorry, Aleks, have to run. Toodles.” He stayed on the line long enough for one last roar to come through before disconnecting the line.
He turned around whistling and saw everyone staring.
“What?” he asked
“Aleks Arkadion is going to kill you,” Ashby said, white as a sheet.
“No he isn’t. If he didn’t kill me for wrecking his Charger, he won’t kill me now,” he said sitting down on the sofa. He reached over and grabbed a magazine and started to flip through the pages.
“That was you?” Rian asked, his eyes wide.
Liam just chuckled.

* * * *

“Aleks. Can’t. Breathe,” Liam said as Aleks’s hand squeezed his throat. Aleks was surprised at the lack of interference he was getting from the pride. They just shrugged their shoulders.
“Ashby told him you were going to kill him,” Rian said.
“Where is Ashby?” Aleks asked, his hand still around Liam’s throat.
“He’s upstairs finishing Rebecca’s hair. Nicholas did her makeup. She put in a lot of effort for you, bear, so you better not fuck this up,” Rian said, his arms crossed.
Aleks raised an eyebrow. The pride seemed to be more protective of Rebecca than their Alpha, whom he had pinned to the wall by the throat.
“Oh for God’s sake, Aleks, let him go! You’ll upset Rebecca and ruin your evening before it begins,” Kate said, coming down the stairs. Aleks immediately dropped Liam.
“Kate, why are you here?” he asked.
“Why would I miss the opportunity for actual girl time? We don’t have much of that at the pack,” she said, swiping a piece of chocolate.
Aleks opened his mouth to say something when the door upstairs opened and Rebecca appeared at the top of the stairs. Her scent hit his nose, and he felt his chest constrict. How could he have possibly thought he could stay away from her? She made her way down the stairs with Nicholas and Ashby following behind her. She moved gracefully, and when she got to the bottom of the stairs, he got the full effect of the dress. It had tiny spaghetti straps that seemed to accent her shoulders. The black dress only seemed to display her creamy skin to its every advantage. The lone slit up one side was nearly his undoing. He didn’t realize he was growling until Liam hit him in the ribs. Rebecca just blushed and smiled at him.
“Ready?” he asked, holding out a slightly trembling hand. She nodded and moved forward, taking his hand.
“Goodnight, everyone, thank you, for everything,” she said, smiling at the room.
“Have her back before midnight, young man,” Liam said, standing in front of the pair.
“Out of the way, cat,” Aleks muttered. Rebecca stepped forward and gave him a hug.
Aleks growled. She ignored him.
“Goodnight, Liam.” She kissed his cheek. Aleks growled again.
“I’m serious though, if you don’t want to go back to the bed-and-breakfast we made up a guest room for you. That’s where Sebastian has been hiding. I let Leona know you may be staying here,” Liam said, smiling down at her.
“Watch him for me?” she asked. Liam nodded.
“Who’s Sebastain?” Aleks asked. Rebecca waved.
“Goodnight, everyone.” She started walking toward the door.
“Who’s Sebastian?” Aleks asked again walking out the door with his arm around her waist.

Behind the Scenes

Q: Do you have any unique talents or hobbies?
A: I’m a fast reader J I can usually do about 100 pages per hour, I wish I could write that fast!
Q: What can we expect from you in the future?
A: Definitely a whole lot more in the Arkadia universe. As of right now I have two additional series planned based in the same world. I’m also kicking around a futuristic/space story line.
Q: What can readers who enjoy your book do to help make it successful?
A: Tell their friends and leave reviews!! I love reviews J I keep them all.
Q: When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
A: When I was six. My book collection was minimal and I was too little to go to the library. That’s when I realized I could create my own  stories. I’ve been doing it ever since.
Q: How long does it take you to write a book?
A: That really depends. If I’m focused, have coffee and shiny objects are to a minimum, then about two weeks. If I can’t seem to get the story going two months.
Q: What is your work schedule like when you're writing?
A: I work a full time job as an Operations Manger so I put in 50-60 hours a week doing that. My writing schedule is squeezed in around those hours.
Q: What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?
A: If I’m stuck I eat Red Hots. Have no idea why it helps, but it does.
Q: Where do you get your information or ideas for your books?
A: Google is my friend. Google is my kryptonite (shiny object) when I’m trying to write. It starts like this. Hmm I wonder what is the gestation period for bears is. Ohhh cute picture of a baby bear. I wonder what a baby hyena looks like. Little hyenas are cute, grown ones look mean. Oh yeah they are getting tortured by Payne, I wonder what medieval torture devices I can write about. Holy shit!! I can never unsee that!! Hmmm how does that work. That’s just wrong! That looks like a nipple ring lol. Ohhh nipple clamps. BDSM tools of the trade…. What in the hell is a cock cage? LMFAO ha ha ha ha….hmm…. What was I doing?
Q: What do you like to do when you're not writing?
A: Read, I love to read.
Q: What does your family think of your writing?
A: My entire family is 100% supportive, they know exactly what I write. My mom insists she is my biggest fan and has read both of my books lol.
Q: How many books have you written? Which is your favorite?
A: I have two published but a ton more written. I will always love Fate Knows Best since it’s my first published, but my fantasy novella will always have a special place in my heart. It may be dug out later,, you never know.
Q: Do you hear from your readers much? What kinds of things do they say?
A: When Fate Knows Best was released, I started hearing from readers almost immediately. I was as spazzy as a caffeinated squirrel. So far nearly all my communications have been positive.
Q: What do you think makes a good story?
A: I think making the characters realistic, slightly flawed and quirky. I also love falling in love with the characters. I can usually forgive a lot in a book if I like the characters.
Q: As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up?

A: Ok, as a result of a childhood of reading adult fantasy, I wanted to go on an epic quest with elves and knights, fight in a huge battle and then rule as queen. Yeah. I’m still working on that.
